Inspired by the work and teachings of Stephen Jenkinson
I remember my grandparents very well. I was fortunate enough to grow up close to them while their heart was being broken in one thousand million pieces.
I remember as a four year old girl looking at the pieces and pointing out to them: Hey look! look at this piece here, and this one, and this one…; they are all here, and not going away, we can put them together again, and again, and again, we can build a new heart.
Now looking back to that girl, who was trying to make sense of the pieces of many elders’s hearts I feel so grateful and connected to her. Actually, she is so much more with me as I get closer to sense the pain as it enters my life. In fact, I am learning so much from her and the natural skill of heart brokenness.
A skill that I am here to remember.
